The ‘Chlorine Disinfection Strategy’ is an innovative and practical application of the science and technology used to manage water quality within the Gold Coast district. Consisting of over 500,000 residents and approximately 10 million tourists annually, the Gold Coast district is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.
Varying system demand and different blends of source water provided a challenge for the water authority to maintain chlorine disinfection levels required at the customers’ tap. This coupled with a change in management and operating environment provided significant challenges.
The project outlines the research and predictive chlorine modelling undertaken to develop a strategy and guidelines for the distribution of safe, reliable and high quality drinking water on the Gold Coast.
