Allconnex Water is building its $65 million Coombabah Wastewater Treatment Plant Stage 5 to cater for anticipated growth in the area.

The works include construction of a Biological Reactor and Clarifier Works, Chlorine Contact Tank Works and Digester Works, which will be vital in breaking down, filtering and disinfecting the wastewater before it is released into the environment.Ring beam concrete pour

With the population of the area expected to increase by up to 50 per cent between 2011 and 2056, Allconnex will increase the capacity of the plant from 75 million litres to 91 million litres per day to service this growth in the short term.

Coombabah Wastewater Treatment Plant Stage 5 works will remain within the existing footprint for the plant and will not impact on the surrounding koala habitat or the neighbouring Ramsar-listed wetlands. The works will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the consistency of high-quality recycled water.

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2012.
