Wastewater from individual households and businesses enters the wastewater network each day. It is transported to a wastewater treatment facility where it is treated using both physical and biological processes.
Allconnex Water’s 16 wastewater treatment plants are located at Beenleigh, Flagstone, Jimboomba, Logan Village, Loganholme, Elanora, Merrimac, Coombabah, Pimpama, Capalaba, Cleveland, Thorneside, Victoria Point, and Mount Cotton, as well as Dunwich and Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island.
Wastewater is treated to a very high standard before it is either recycled for irrigation, commercial and industrial uses or released to rivers or the ocean in accordance with strict Department of Environment and Resource Management guidelines.
Other waste materials collected at the wastewater treatment plants include biosolids and grit. Biosolids are transported to farms for soil conditioning, however grit cannot be recycled and is sent to landfill as regulated waste.
