Water and wastewater charges for business
Water and wastewater charges in 2011/12 for businesses are:
- Water service charge - $177.16* per half year
For ongoing connection to Allconnex Water’s distribution system.
- Water consumption charge - $2.9858 per kilolitre
For each kilolitre (1,000 litres) used, as measured by your water meter.
- Wastewater service charge - $340.02 a half year
For ongoing connection to Allconnex Water’s wastewater distribution system.
- Wastewater volume charge - $4.1854 per kilolitre
For each kilolitre of wastewater released into the wastewater system less the half-yearly discharge allowance of 92.5 per kilolitre.
- Class A+ recycled water consumption charge - $1.6576 per kilolitre
For each kilolitre (1000 litres) used, as measured by your purple recycled water meter.

* The current minimum water service fee is $177.16 a half year, based on a 20mm diameter water meter connection. For meters 25mm and above, there is a tiered charge. See the table of water service charges below for details.
Account information
- Water and wastewater service charges are charged in advance and are set charges, independent of the volume of water used.
- Water consumption is charged per kilolitre (1,000 litres) and is based on your water consumption over the previous six month period. Water consumption charges can only be calculated after you have used the water. It is based on your water meter reading.
- The wastewater volume charge is for the volume of wastewater released into the city's wastewater distribution system over the previous six month period. It is calculated using an
industry-based discharge factor (63kb). A domestic usage allowance is then deducted from this adjusted figure to reach the chargeable wastewater volume.

How we calculate your account
The table below shows how we calculate the water service charge. Your water service charge is determined by the:
- Number and size of water meter connections to your property
- Volume of water your property consumes annually (in kilolitres). The standard charge for a 20mm service connection is $177.16 per half year. For meters 25mm and above, there is a tiered charge which can be viewed below.

* For example, the half yearly water service charge for a business with a 100mm connection and water consumption of 2000 kilolitres (from the previous year) would be $2,834.56.
Water consumption charge
Water consumption is charged per kilolitre (1000 litres) and is based on your water consumption from the previous period. Water consumption charges can only be charged after you have used the water.
Daily water consumption
Calculate your daily water consumption by reading your water meter. Multiply this daily water consumption by $2.9858 per kilolitre to calculate your daily water consumption charge.
Half year water consumption
Multiple your daily water consumption charge by 182.5 to calculate your approximate water consumption charge for half a year.
Wastewater service charge
Your wastewater service charge is charged in advance and is a set charge, independent of the volume of water used.
The standard wastewater service charge is $340.02 per half year.
Wastewater volume charge
This charge is based on how many kilolitres (1000 litres) of wastewater your property discharges into the wastewater system.
The volume of wastewater released from each property is calculated by applying an industry-based percentage or discharge factor.
This discharge factor is multiplied by your water consumption (from the previous six month period) to calculate the volume of wastewater released into Allconnex Water’s wastewater system.
A domestic usage allowance of 92.5 kilolitres per half year is then deducted from this figure to reach the chargeable wastewater volume. The current wastewater volume charge is $4.1854 per kilolitre.
Example
Based on a six month account period for a business with a 90 per cent property discharge factor.
Chargeable wastewater volume for an office block with a 900 kilolitre water consumption (from the previous six month period) and discharge factor of 90 per cent, less the standard discharge allowance of 92.5 kilolitres is 717.5 kilolitres. 717.5 kilolitres multiplied by $4.1854 is $3,003.02.
Summary of charges for six months, as per example above. This includes wastewater volume charge.
