Efficient sprinkler

Residential permanent water conservation measures were introduced across all South East Queensland council areas on 1 December 2009.

Remember, Target 200 (200 litres per person per day)

  • No watering from 10am – 4pm or on Mondays
  • Follow the efficient irrigation guidelines
  • Use rainwater at any time.

Watering your garden and lawn

Follow the efficient irrigation guidelines:

Sprinklers Only if it uses less than 9 litres a minute
With a timer
Only for 30 minutes
Irrigation systems (drippers, micro-sprayers, pop-up sprinklers, drip lines) Only if each device uses less than 9 litres a minutes
With a timer (electronic timers must be used with either a rain or moisture sensor)
Hose With a trigger or twist nozzle
Customised irrigation systems
Only if approved by a certified irrigation professional

Cleaning and outdoor maintenance

Vehicles, house, outdoor living areas Any time with an efficient hose, high pressure cleaner or bucket
Paths and driveways Only if they are significantly dirty
Pools and spas Filled at any time, as long as rainwater tank or diverter is installed, plus three of the following:
Pool cover
Water efficient showerheads and taps
Water efficient toilets
Water efficient washing machine
Play pools Filled at any time, but must have less than 500 litre capacity or recirculate the water
Fountains, ponds and outdoor aquariums Filled at any time, but must use less than 200 litres a week or recirculate the water


Excessive users

Households that use more than 1200 litres per day will be asked to explain their water use – some may have a legitimate reason.
